St Helens Quarries is local in the way that actually matters. We're not a branch of a mainland supplier, not a reseller buying stock from somewhere else. We operate three quarries in the St Helens area, and every tonne of material we sell - road base, drainage aggregate, decorative pebbles, crushed granite gravel, landscaping stone - comes out of ground we own, on the East Coast of Tasmania.

Andy and Joanne Griffiths started the business in 1998 with deep roots in the industry already behind them. Over 28 years later, the business is still family-owned, still operated by the same people, and still supplying the same region - St Helens, Scamander, Binalong Bay, St Marys, Fingal, Scottsdale, Derby, Bicheno, and everywhere in between.

That history gives us something a distant supplier can't offer: genuine local knowledge. We know which products perform in East Coast coastal conditions. We know the ground in the Fingal Valley. We know the high-rainfall reality on the ranges behind Scottsdale and Derby, and what that means for drainage and road base specifications. When you call us, you're talking to people who have been supplying this specific region for a long time - and who want your project to go well.

We're honest with our customers. If you're about to order the wrong product, we'll tell you and recommend the right one. If you're not sure how much you need, we'll calculate it with you. We understand that most residential customers aren't ordering materials every week, and we take the time to get it right.

Why It Matters That We Produce Our Own Materials

There's a practical difference between buying materials from a quarry that produces them and ordering from a supplier who buys from someone else and on-sells. When you buy direct from St Helens Quarries, that difference shows up in ways that affect your project:

Specification confidence.
We can confirm grading, PSV ratings, and VicRoads compliance without checking with a third party - because we made it. If your project has specific material requirements, call us and we'll tell you whether what we stock meets them.

Consistent supply.
Our stockpiles are ours. Supply disruptions that affect resellers - delays, substitutions, inconsistent grading across loads - don't affect us the same way.

Honest advice.
28 years in the one region means we know what works in East Coast conditions, what councils and builders actually specify, and what suits a rural track near Fingal differently to a residential driveway in St Helens. We'll tell you the right product for your application - not just the one we have most of.

Shorter transport, lower cost.
Operating from St Helens puts us closer to more East Coast and North East customers than any supplier based in Launceston or Hobart. That translates to lower delivery costs and faster turnaround times for the region we know best.

Help staying on budget.
We understand most residential customers aren't ordering materials regularly. We take the time to calculate quantities properly, suggest the most cost-effective product that does the job, and help you avoid over-ordering or under-ordering.

Also Need Excavation or Earthmoving?

If your project needs more than materials - if you need a site cut, a trench dug, a driveway excavated, culverts installed, or rural earthmoving done - our sister business North East Excavations handles all of that across the East Coast and North East Tasmania.

Family & Local Experience

You Can Trust and Rely On

Operating from St Helens since 1998, our knowledge of East Coast Tasmania's soil conditions, coastal influences, and environmental requirements has been built through more than 40 years of family involvement in quarrying, road construction, and earthmoving. That hands-on history is what allows us to recommend the right product for your application — not just what we have in stock, but what will actually perform in the specific conditions of this region.

We work with landscapers, builders, councils, rural landholders, and residential customers across the East Coast and North East to make sure every project is supplied with the right material, in the right quantity, at the right time. Whether it's a single load of decorative pebbles for a garden project in Scamander or bulk road base for a civil contract near Scottsdale, we bring the same attention to getting it right.

Call us on 0418 555 646 — no matter how big or small the job, we're here to help you get it done.
